Laser Hair Reduction
Targeted light energy absorbed by pigment in the hair follicle to reduce hair growth over a course of sessions. It reduces hair density and thickness substantially rather than removing hair permanently, and requires a course of six to eight sessions with periodic maintenance afterwards.

Why it is called reduction, not removal
Because that is what it is. Laser meaningfully reduces the number, thickness and visibility of hairs, and most people find the result life-changing in practical terms. But hair follicles can reactivate, hormones change, and no course eliminates every follicle. Anyone promising permanent removal is overstating it.
Who it is for
- Unwanted facial or body hair
- Ingrown hairs and razor bumps
- Folliculitis from shaving or waxing, which is common in Chennai humidity
- Anyone tired of the waxing and threading cycle
- All genders — a significant proportion of our laser clients are men
Who it is not for
- Grey, white, red or very fine blonde hair — laser targets pigment, and without pigment there is nothing to target. We will tell you at consultation rather than take your money.
- Active infection, open skin or severe sunburn in the area
- Recent sun exposure or a fresh tan — treating tanned skin risks burns and pigmentation, so we wait two weeks
- Pregnancy
- Anyone who has waxed, threaded, plucked or epilated in the last four weeks — the root must be present
- Certain photosensitising medications — tell us what you take
- Uncontrolled hormonal conditions affecting hair growth, without medical management alongside
Laser hair reduction on Indian skin
Higher-melanin skin absorbs more light energy, which historically made laser hair reduction riskier for Indian skin types. Correct wavelength selection and conservative settings have changed that, but the calibration still matters enormously.
We patch test before your first session, without exception, and we set parameters against your specific skin type rather than a standard. If you arrive with a fresh tan we will reschedule you, and that is a safety decision rather than an inconvenience.
Aftercare
- Redness and mild bumps around the follicles for a few hours, occasionally up to 24
- SPF 50 daily on exposed areas
- No sun exposure, tanning, steam, sauna, swimming or gym for 48 hours
- No hot showers for 24 hours
- Do not wax, thread or pluck between sessions — shaving is fine and encouraged
- Shedding over the following one to three weeks is normal and is not regrowth
Frequently asked
Is laser hair reduction permanent?
It is long-term reduction rather than permanent removal. Most people see a substantial and lasting decrease in hair density, with maintenance sessions once or twice a year.
Does it hurt?
It feels like a brief rubber-band snap with each pulse, with cooling applied throughout. Most people rate it three to five out of ten.
Is it safe for Indian skin?
Yes, with correct wavelength selection and conservative settings, and with a patch test first. Skin type and current tan level are assessed before every session.
How many sessions will I need?
Six to eight, spaced four to six weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles and laser only affects follicles in their active phase, which is why the course and the spacing both matter.
Can I shave between sessions?
Yes, and you should. Do not wax, thread or pluck, because the root needs to be present for the laser to work.
Will it work on my grey hairs?
No. Laser targets pigment and grey hair has none.
Do men have laser hair reduction?
Yes, commonly. Beard shaping, back, chest and shoulders are all frequent requests.
