Dermaplaning

A manual exfoliation treatment in which a sterile blade is used at an angle to remove dead surface cells and fine vellus hair. It leaves skin visibly smoother, allows products and makeup to sit better, and has no downtime.

Who it is for

  • Rough or uneven surface texture
  • Dullness caused by dead cell build-up
  • Fine vellus hair on the face that traps product and catches light
  • Anyone wanting makeup to sit more smoothly
  • Event preparation

Who it is not for

  • Active acne, pustules or inflamed breakouts — the blade should not pass over them
  • Very reactive or barrier-damaged skin
  • Active eczema, psoriasis or dermatitis on the face
  • Anyone on isotretinoin, or within six months of stopping it
  • Areas with raised moles or skin tags, which we work around

The question everyone asks

No, the hair does not grow back thicker or darker. Vellus hair regrows at the same texture and colour it was before. What changes is that the cut end can feel slightly blunt for a few days, which people misread as thicker. This is the most common myth about dermaplaning and it is not true.

The Aglow method

We treat dermaplaning as a preparation step as much as a treatment. Removing the surface layer means anything applied afterwards penetrates better, so we frequently pair it with an active infusion or a hydrating step in the same session. On pigment-prone skin we keep pressure light, because friction is a pigmentation trigger.

Aftercare

  • SPF 50 daily — freshly exfoliated skin is more sun-sensitive
  • No actives or acids for 48 hours
  • No steam, sauna or swimming for 24 hours
  • Avoid direct sun for 3 days
  • Keep the skin well moisturised

Frequently asked

Will the hair grow back thicker?

No. Vellus hair regrows at its original texture and colour. The blunt cut end can feel different for a few days, which is where the myth comes from.

Does it hurt?

No. Most people describe a light scraping sensation and find it comfortable.

Is there downtime?

None. Skin may feel slightly sensitive for a few hours and looks brighter immediately.

How often should I have it?

Every four weeks, which matches the natural skin renewal cycle.

Can I have it if I have acne?

Not over active or inflamed breakouts. If your acne is mild and non-inflamed we may still be able to treat, and we will assess at consultation.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Yes, frequently. It works well before an active infusion or hydrating treatment because absorption improves noticeably.

Results vary from person to person. Some concerns need a dermatologist rather than a Wellness treatment we'll say so at consultation.
